The Three R's

When I was substitute teaching for the elementary school in Colorado I would tell my students it was most important to learn the three R’s. Respect, responsibility and Radiance.

Respect:
Respect for yourself: to be able to like the person in the mirror regardless of what others think or say. To enjoy what one are doing and where one is going regardless of what others think. To accept one’s self as being the best one can be and knowing that that is what matters.
Respect for your peers: to be able to look at your peers and follow the same standards for them as for yourself. To accept them for being who and what they are.
Respect for others: Remember, even though some of us have been here a while longer than others it does not mean we t know everything, however it is possible that we may have learned a bit more and have more experienced so at least listen and considering the possibilities. Respect also includes forgiveness and acceptance of who and what others are. Respect those who are younger than yourself. Accept for who and what they are and be gentle with them, you never know what there journey is.
Responsibility:
Respect yourself enough to take responsibility for your own actions. We all make mistakes and when we take that responsibility we learn a lot faster and make life easier for everyone. It is O.K. to makemistakes, it is even good to make mistakes because that is how we learn. Respect others enough to allow them the responsibility of making their own mistakes as well. We serve no one, least of all ourselves by trying to be responsible for the mistakes of othres.
Radiance:
When we respect ourselves, our peers and our elders and when we take responsibility for our own actions we have no choice but to automatically become radiant and to let our light shine, thereby giving others permission to do the same.
